Agenda: Thursday,
July 17, 2008 at 7:00pm at a different location. Please

Presentation:
IPW is going on the road this month!
In lieu of IPW's traditional monthly meeting at the Freedom
House on Hill Road, we will gather to tour the new Visual Arts
Collective (VaC), a mixed-use contemporary fine art gallery
in Garden City where owner Anneliessa Balk Stimpert will provide
an introduction to VaC, their goals and objectives as a multi-use
arts facility. She will be joined by Bob Deely, who along with
his wife Irene, owns Woman of Steel Gallery (located adjacent
to VaC). Bob and Irene are working to establish an arts and
cultural district in Garden City. One of the components of
that effort is Creative Juices Arts and Culture, INC., which
will bring more opportunities for our community to share and
engage in the arts.
The VaC is located on the north side of Chinden Road, at 3638
Osage Street (between 36th and 37th streets). Be there or be
square!

2008 PhotoCrawl: July
19th
Equipment and other Recommendations:
You will want to wear/bring clothing appropriate for the hot
weather and possible cooling temperatures as the sun goes down.
Weatherman says it will be hot tonight and the pavement, concrete
and buildings hold in and radiate the heat. It is advisable
to bring water, and we can stop at coffee shops along the way.
Camera Equipment, a tripod is a must; plus bring your favorite
telephoto, macro and/or wide angle lenses. You can either use
the timer on your camera, or bring a wired or wireless remote,
to fire your camera. You may want to bring a flash, but most
people will choose to shoot with available low light. You may
also want to bring a flashlight.
We will meet at Flying M Coffeehouse, 500 W Idaho St Boise,
then stroll through the streets and alleys. I am leading
this month's PhotoCrawl and I am willing to stay out as late
as
12-1:00am, depending on if anyone still wants to shoot that
late. If you have not shot low light photography, it is an
exciting world or light, reflections, different color temperatures,
and of blurred movement. Low light photography in a downtown
setting suits both color and B&W photography.
I am trying to get an rough idea of numbers, so if you are
interested or might be interested, please let me know. If you
have not tried low light or night photography, this is a great
opportunity to go out on a hot July night with fellow photographers
and give it a try. It is one of my favorite types of photography
(thanks to Professor Brent Smith). Besides IPW, Mike invited
some of his photography contacts; I also invited the HP Photo
Club, and the new Eagle Photo Club. It will be very cool if
we get a mix of photographer from the various other groups.
Hope to see you there!
If you have any questions, let me know (Paul Pulley, ipw.communication@gmail.com).
The next PhotoCrawl will be in September. Date and details
for Septembers PhotoCrawl will be announce late August/early
September.

Digital Classroom -
coming soon!
We are in negotiations and planning to develop several workshops
on digital photography using a local classroom facility. This is
an exciting development that has been in the works for several months.
There are opportunities for 1⁄2 day, full day and multi-day
workshops on Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture, Painter, and the various
specific aspects of each. It gives IPW a great opportunity to provide
greater educational resources to its members and to the local and
regional photographer community. Stay tuned for more details as we
get them.

Information, Inspiration and the occasional kick in the
ass. http://www.artbizblog.com/ Some
of us are on Alyson Stanfield's ArtBiz Coach email list. Now she has
a blog as well as a newsletter. If you're at all interested
in selling your work (or think you might be someday), she
has valuable advice to offer. Here's a sample:
What do you have in mind for your art business in 2006? I'm not
talking about the little things you have to do. Or even the
medium-sized tasks and events you must tackle on the road to success.
I'm talking
about the big stuff. Big, hairy, audacious goals--or BHAGs,
as they've been called -- are career-changing steps. They get you out
of your comfort
zone by forcing you to put yourself on the line, increase
your knowledge, expand your creativity, and improve your level of excellence.
So, what
are your BHAGs for 2006?
INFO ON DIGITAL STUFF
If youve ever tried to answer someones questions (or your own) about digital terminology (Whats a pixel?) or equipment, check out http://www.geeks.com/pix/techtips.htm. The two most recent tech tips are on terminology and digital accessories. Earlier tips might be of interest, too.
SLIDES FROM DIGITAL FILES ONLINE SOURCE
Mike Shipman sent this info to share with you: Here is a link to an online source for getting slides made from digital files. I haven't used them yet, but what I've read has been positive. Their rates are pretty reasonable also, $2.50 for the 1st original, $2 for the first duplicate of the same image, $1.50 for 2nd duplicate, and $1 for each additional dupe. The place is www.slides.com.
The International Photography Guide at http://www.photoeye.com will be the most complete resource for fine-art photography on the web. It will include listings of educators, critics, curators, historians, equipment, suppliers, services, festivals, symposiums, museums, galleries, grants, awards, fellowships, residencies, organizations, associations, periodicals, publishers, schools, universities, workshops, and much more! We believe it will become the most useful online resource for fine-art photography.
West Coast Imaging has an informative web sitewestcoastimaging.com, (info@westcoastimaging.com) and will add you to its list-serve to get more tips.
Rocky Mountain School of Photography web sitehttp://www.rmsp.com/ (news@rmsp.com) also has good info and images.
