MONTHLY
PROGRAMS
Thursday, June 18, 7:00pm, monthly meeting.
Agenda/Topic: Journey back to time, Kelly Bickle
Journey back in time to turn-of-the-century Boise with local photographer Kelly Bickle through his fascinating presentation, Boise by Burns. Kelly and his wife Marilyn are the third generation to operate family-owned Burns Studio, a thriving portrait studio that has been a fixture on State Street in downtown Boise since 1919. Started by J Grover Burns in Meridian, the studio is one of Boise’s oldest businesses.
Over twenty years ago, Kelly and Marilyn took over the studio, and inherited vast archives of vintage negatives, including many 8x10 glass plates. As he has inventoried, scanned and archived the work, he’s been given a tour of local history and a peek at Burns’ creativity as a working professional. Of special interest are examples of the optical tricks that Burns skillfully executed with complex manual techniques, long before the advent of digital imaging. A wonderful presentation for historians and photographers alike.
**Show us your work**
If you have Prints or Digital Images you would like to share, please bring them
to the meeting. For Digital Images, bring up to 5 digital images on a CD/DVD
(sized 1024 x 768) for project.

critiques and sharing of work, each meeting features an educational

Information, Inspiration and the occasional kick in the
ass. http://www.artbizblog.com/ Some
of us are on Alyson Stanfield's ArtBiz Coach email list. Now she has
a blog as well as a newsletter. If you're at all interested
in selling your work (or think you might be someday), she
has valuable advice to offer. Here's a sample:
What do you have in mind for your art business in 2006? I'm not
talking about the little things you have to do. Or even the
medium-sized tasks and events you must tackle on the road
to success. I'm talking
about the big stuff. Big, hairy, audacious goals--or BHAGs,
as they've been called -- are career-changing steps. They
get you out of your comfort
zone by forcing you to put yourself on the line, increase
your knowledge, expand your creativity, and improve your
level of excellence. So, what
are your BHAGs for 2006?
INFO ON DIGITAL STUFF
If youve ever tried to answer someones questions (or your own) about digital terminology (Whats a pixel?) or equipment, check out http://www.geeks.com/pix/techtips.htm. The two most recent tech tips are on terminology and digital accessories. Earlier tips might be of interest, too.
SLIDES FROM DIGITAL FILES ONLINE SOURCE
Mike Shipman sent this info to share with you: Here is a link to an online source for getting slides made from digital files. I haven't used them yet, but what I've read has been positive. Their rates are pretty reasonable also, $2.50 for the 1st original, $2 for the first duplicate of the same image, $1.50 for 2nd duplicate, and $1 for each additional dupe. The place is www.slides.com.
The International Photography Guide at http://www.photoeye.com will be the most complete resource for fine-art photography on the web. It will include listings of educators, critics, curators, historians, equipment, suppliers, services, festivals, symposiums, museums, galleries, grants, awards, fellowships, residencies, organizations, associations, periodicals, publishers, schools, universities, workshops, and much more! We believe it will become the most useful online resource for fine-art photography.
West Coast Imaging has an informative web sitewestcoastimaging.com, (info@westcoastimaging.com) and will add you to its list-serve to get more tips.
Rocky Mountain School of Photography web site http://www.rmsp.com/ (news@rmsp.com)
